5. Communication for social transformation
In the module Communication and campaigns for transformation we approach communication as a human capacity that needs to be taken back to us people, so that we realise we use it all the time and it can become a source of power, of organisation and community building.
We are going to dive into this approach, and later we will start practising with a map of actors for communication, with testimonials of activists who transform through communication, and we will also try to develop our collective skills to organise transformative communication.
1. (Video) Communication for social transformation (Pablo Zareceansky)

3. Small Talks, Big Changes: a conversation between Cris Mañas and Carlos Navarro
Cris Mañas was at the begining of the grassroots campaign that brought the alternative party led by the until then anti-evictions movement leader Ada Colau to govern the city of Barcelona.
Carlos Navarro created several years ago the collective 1 cada 8 horas (1 every 8 hours), which creates awareness raising and alternative narratives on health issues with original and enjoyable approaches.
They met for the first time to have this conversation, and they felt...there was some identity in what they do.
Now, time for debate and bringing in your opinions
You may react to these presentations and materials the way you prefer, though we may trigger through some questions:
- Your approach: What is your own approach to communication for social change? How to integrate a transformative perspective or action on this regard in the struggles for the right to health?
- Using these materials: Do you think these materials could have some use for future trainings and awareness raising actions? (Is there something that should be improved, for it to happen?)
